PROCESS BEGINS TO SELECT A SUCCESSOR TO LATE COMMISSIONER GARY STAMPER

CHEHALIS – A moment of silence in honor of the late Lewis County Commissioner Gary Stamper was held at the start of the weekly business meeting of the county commission on Tuesday. The process of filling the Lewis County Commission seat left vacant with the passing of Commissioner Stamper one week ago Wednesday, has begun. The Lewis County Republican Central Committee met Monday night, and committee member Ron Averill announced that applications are now being accepted by county Republican Party chairman, Winlock Mayor Brandon Svenson. Averill says, “We will take applications (from those who want) to be the commissioner for district 3 and we will stipulate what we want in those applications, a biography  and resume. We can only accept applicants that reside in the third commissioner district.” The qualifications of interested individuals will be considered by the central committee, elected precinct committee officers at a meeting on October 26. Averill added, “The party will meet then chose three in rank order and the finalist names will be offered”  to the Lewis County Commissioners who will choose a successor to the late commissioner. That person will retain the position through 2022.
