CHEHALIS – A remembrance ceremony was held Thursday in Chehalis for the late Lewis County Commissioner Gary Stamper who died Wednesday from complications from coronavirus. Community leaders and others gathered to share memories of the longtime civic leader and educator. Lewis County Commissioner Lindsey Pollock shared what stood about about her former colleague saying, “His absolute care for individual citizens of Lewis County and his team building to make sure Lewis County got a win.” Working alongside Stamper for six years, former county commissioner Edna Fund says Stamper was always looking out for others, “I remember a big hearted gentleman, intelligent man who had been a coach, a teacher, a principal, my colleague, my friend and an overall advocate for Lewis County.” Now, the current board of commissioners will await a list of county Republican committee nominees to fill Stamper’s position. Lewis County Commissioner Lindsey Pollock says, “The Republican party of Lewis County will solicit names from their precinct committee officers and the central committee will forward nominating names to herself and Commissioner (Sean) Swope with the two of us hopefully coming to a decision who will fill Commissioner Stamper’s seat until elections next year.” A memorial service for Commissioner Stamper will be announced at a later date.
