CHEHALIS – It’s been over a year that graduating seniors and their family and friends have been able to celebrate their educational accomplishments with ceremonies that occur this time of year. Onalaska and Rainier High School seniors received their diplomas on Friday. Winlock and Napavine graduations were held Saturday afternoon. During the 129th annual W.F. West High School graduation, 192 seniors donned crimson caps and gowns and receive their diplomas Saturday night at the high school stadium. W.F. West Principal Bob Walters told us yesterday that it’ll be the first ever outdoor ceremony for the school. Walters says, “We wanted to do the best full ceremony we could, and the kids were as excited as they could be.” You may have seen the group on their “senior walk’ through Chehalis on Thursday, visiting the middle school and elementary schools to say hello again and goodbye to their past teachers and staff. Walters recollected that the students have waded through unforeseen challenges with the pandemic creating a new high school experience. Walters shared that, “The grit we saw in them this year and their commitment will carry on through their carrier and college goals.” Scholarship night held Friday night saw many of the students receiving a portion of the $2.7 million dollars in school tuition assistance. All other Lewis County High Schools hold ceremonies this week and next, at Rochester June 13th, the Centralia Futurus High School, June 15th and Pe Ell High School June 18th.
