CHEHALIS – Lewis County opens the first local walk-in clinic at the former Sears store at the Lewis County Mall on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Sufficient medicine arriving in Lewis County for the drive through clinics as well on Thursday and Sunday at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds. NW Pediatric Clinic in Centralia is offering Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine shots in its clinic at 1911 Cooks Hill Road in Centralia. Medical Director Dr. Jennifer Polley, MD says Moderna vaccine will be available April 28 and 29 for anyone ages 18 through 26. Pfizer vaccine shots will be available for anyone age down to age 16 and up to age 26 on May 4 and May 6.  Dr. Polley said she hopes to especially target 16 and 17 year olds with the Pfizer clinics. Demand for vaccines has waned with only 26% of Lewis County residents vaccinated to date, according to the State Department of Health. Of concern to local officials are the health care metrics related to the Washington Healthy Recovery Plan. In comparison, Pierce County, which had businesses “roll back” to 25% customer capacities due to increasing coronavirus infections, reports 242 cases for every 100,000 citizens. Lewis County last reported an estimated 236 infections for every 100,000 population. Lewis County Manager Erik Martin reported Monday that an email from the State Department of Health on Friday indicated, “Although our county and other counties, as far as the metrics go, are kind of  on the edge of the standards, they (State Department of Health) probably would not be rolling the counties back, like ours. They indicated that the health officer has the ability to put restrictions  on including rolling back phases as they see fit.” “I don’t think I’ve heard any indication from our health officers that they are planning on doing that”, Martin added.
